Jh. das Zentrum der Siedlung aus der die Stadt Halle erwuchs.<br \/>\nAuf dem Grundst\u00fcck Alter Markt 2 (Marticksches Grundst\u00fcck) stand bis 1905 die Michaeliskapelle aus dem 10.\/11.\u00a0 Jahrhundert, die \u00e4lteste Kirche der Stadt Halle.<br \/>\nIm Zentrum des Stra\u00dfendreiecks Rannische Stra\u00dfe\/Alter Markt befindet sich heute der Eselsbrunnen, der 1913 von dem am Alten Markt wohnenden M\u00f6belfabrikanten Albert Martick gestiftet und von dem Hallenser Wilhelm Keiling geschaffen wurde.
